Knife Information

A relatively young but masterful blacksmith, Shigeki Tanaka crafts his knives in a workshop in Miki City, Japan. Known for being skilful and creative, he works with almost all knifemaking steels, from high carbon like Aogami, to powder stainless steel. His range of R2/SG2 Black Damascus had our jaws on the floor when we received our first shipment from him!

The first thing we noted was the impeccable presentation. A Palownia wooden box houses all his R2 knives and is lined with red velvet. The etching of these blades has left a dark, misty, striking Damascus pattern, and are dressed in Walnut handles. Beautifully thin grinds ensure fantastic cutting performance, and 64HRC guarantees phenomenal edge retention

Best paired with a 27cm felt lined blade guard and a 1000/6000 whetstone

The GreenLife Tabletop BBQ's are the perfect alternative to the bulkier clay Hibachi's when portability and ease of use are the priority. Crafted in Sanjo, Niigata with the typical attention to detail expected of goods from this area, they are a lightweight, no-fuss option for yakitori, steaks, vegetables, seafood, or anything else that does well cooked on charcoal. 

Just heat our White Charcoal Sticks, empty them into the grill, and you're good to go.

Who doesn't want a whale knife? Hand-forged carbon steel with soft iron clad. A perfect utility/chopper with great edge retention. 

STEEL BREAKDOWN – Blue Steel is a traditional high-carbon steel made by Hitachi Metals in Japan. It is the favourite steel of many knife makers and chefs across the world for its fantastic edge holding ability, toughness, and ease of sharpening. It contains few stainless elements, and as such will develop a patina, and develop rust spots if left wet after use. It requires a little more care and maintenance than something like VG-10 (Stainless Steel), so consider this when purchasing a Blue Steel knife as your first Japanese knife.

This 500/1000/4000/6000 kit is the perfect bundle to move more stubborn steels like SG2 or HAP40, or for minor chip repairs, as well as for taking carbon and stainless edges to a more refined 6000 finish. A synthetic marvel made by Morihei Japan, the Hishiboshi whetstones feel like natural stones, require no soaking, are extremely long lasting and offer excellent tactile feedback.
